Citizen Science

Science with the people

The CEBC is developing citizen science programmes in thePlaine and Val de Sèvre Workshop Zone, enabling everyone to participate in the choices made to manage the biodiversity of their territory. Thanks in particular to the support of the Deux-Sèvres department and the involvement of local associations, actions have been carried out with schoolchildren, teachers, elected officials, municipal officials, inhabitants, beekeepers, farmers, focusing on the ecological services linked to the management of “green spaces” (private gardens, communal areas, roadsides). This action-research aims to mobilize society on biodiversity issues and prepare it to adapt to global changes.

Citizens at the heart of the VILLAGE Platform

Citizens must be able to appropriate the knowledge needed to express their choices and develop the capacity to act in the face of changes in their environment. The scientific response brought to the Plaine & Val de Sèvre Workshop Zone is based on the creation of the VILLAGE platform, a support for citizen science systems.
The VILLAGE platform is part of the environmental sciences, an interdisciplinary field at the interface between ecology and human and social sciences. It is research-action based on the creation of networks of actors whose role is fundamental in the process of social learning, thus strengthening the capacity for adaptation.

The Mon Village Espace de Biodiversité initiative

Mon Village Espace de Biodiversité  is being developed in the south of Deux-Sèvres on all the communes of the Zone Atelier Plaine & Val de Sèvre between 2012 and 2017, involving the 23 primary schools (2,236 pupils), around 8% of households (1,518 member gardens), beekeepers and all local elected officials.

The objective is for everyone to be able to take ownership of their territory in order to get involved in the collective management of biodiversity.
